Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy that uses a patient’s own blood as a source of healing. Blood contains platelets, proteins and healing growth factors necessary to heal acute and chronic injuries. When one gets injured, blood flows to the area and starts the healing process, but often times the injuries do not heal completely.
PRP is obtained by a simple blood draw the day of the procedure. Then the blood is placed in a centrifuge, where the platelets are concentrated and separated from the other blood components not necessary for healing. Then, only the platelets and healing growth factors are reinjected into the area of injury.
